China’s Xi Jinping Champions Ethnic Unity Across Generations

In a heartfelt message, Chinese President Xi Jinping has reaffirmed the nation's commitment to fostering ethnic unity across generations.

Xi, who also serves as the General Secretary of the Communist Party of China Central Committee and Chairman of the Central Military Commission, conveyed his thoughts in a reply letter to the descendants of representatives from various ethnic groups. These representatives had erected a monument in 1951 in Yunnan Province, symbolizing their pledge to unity and loyalty to the Party.

Reflecting on over seven decades of solidarity, Xi highlighted the collective efforts of all ethnic groups in driving economic and social development in border regions. He emphasized that these unified endeavors have led to significant achievements, benefiting the entire nation.

Describing the Chinese nation as \"a big family where 56 ethnic groups love and care for each other,\" Xi urged all ethnic communities to enhance their sense of national unity. He called for continued collaboration to achieve greater ethnic harmony and progress.

The historical context dates back to 1950 when representatives from different ethnic groups in Pu'er, Yunnan, were invited to Beijing to celebrate the first anniversary of the People's Republic of China. On January 1, 1951, these representatives held an oath-taking rally and erected a monument, with 48 signatures commemorating their commitment.

Recently, the descendants of those representatives reached out to Xi, providing updates on the lives of local ethnic communities under the Party's leadership, further cementing the legacy of unity and cooperation.
