China’s Wang Yi Urges UN Mediation for Ukraine Peace

In a passionate appeal to restore harmony amidst ongoing turmoil, Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi called on the United Nations Security Council on Tuesday to mediate the complex Ukraine crisis. Speaking at a high-level UN meeting in New York, Wang emphasized the urgent need for all parties to find common ground and prioritize peaceful resolutions.

The conflict in Ukraine has now spanned three years, with escalating violence and increasing civilian casualties casting a shadow over the region's stability. Wang highlighted that each passing day exacerbates the suffering of the people and broadens the conflict's global impact, making the current situation unsustainable.

\"Every additional day of the crisis brings more suffering to the people, more destruction to the region, and more instability to the world,\" Wang stated. He called for prioritizing peace, fostering genuine commitments to negotiations, and facilitating open dialogues among conflicting parties.

Wang stressed the importance of preventing the conflict from spilling beyond the battlefield, avoiding further escalation, and refraining from actions that could fuel the tensions. He underscored the need for the international community to heighten awareness of the crisis, reduce tensions, and embrace responsibility in promoting peace and dialogue.

Highlighting the collaborative spirit of the Global South, Wang noted the growing international calls for peace and the collective effort to create conducive conditions for negotiations. He urged the international community to seize the current opportunity to enhance cooperation in critical areas such as energy, finance, trade, and food security, as well as protect vital infrastructure like oil and gas pipelines.

Wang also cautioned against using the Ukraine crisis as a pretext for imposing illegal unilateral sanctions or disrupting normal economic and trade relations. He advocated for maintaining unity without creating exclusive blocs that could further divide the world.
