China's Foreign Ministry spokesperson Lin Jian has called on the United States to end its focus on containing China and to reconsider its Indo-Pacific strategy, which heavily involves regional alliances like the Quad.
Speaking at a daily press briefing following U.S. President Joe Biden's remarks at the recent Quad summit, Lin Jian criticized the Quad as a tool used by the U.S. to perpetuate its supremacy and contain China's growth in the Indo-Pacific region.
Lin Jian emphasized that the U.S. Indo-Pacific strategy, by promoting the \"China threat\" narrative, aims to amass forces to exclude and contain China. He pointed out that the Quad's emphasis on military and security cooperation under the guise of addressing maritime issues aligns with these containment tactics.
Despite the U.S. claims that its strategy does not target China, Lin Jian argued that the summit's focus on China-related issues and the pervasive discussion of China's actions reveal the true intentions behind the U.S. strategy.
He stressed that regional cooperation should prioritize peace, stability, and prosperity without targeting any third party. Lin Jian cautioned that forming exclusive groupings undermines mutual trust and cooperation, contradicting the regional trend towards development and cooperation in the Asia-Pacific.
Lin Jian concluded by urging the U.S. to cease using regional countries as tools, to stop pursuing selfish gains at the expense of other countries' strategic security interests, and to promote genuine collaboration for the well-being of the Asia-Pacific region.
