In a significant address commemorating the 75th anniversary of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC), Xi Jinping underscored the importance of leveraging the CPPCC's unique political advantages to advance whole-process people's democracy.
Speaking at a gathering in Beijing, Xi emphasized that the CPPCC has proven to be an innovative political system over the past seven and a half decades. This system integrates political parties, prominent individuals without party affiliations, various people's organizations, and representatives from diverse ethnic groups, all under the leadership of the Communist Party of China (CPC).
Xi highlighted several key aspects of the Party's strategy to enhance the CPPCC's effectiveness. These include maintaining the Party's overall leadership, strengthening the CPPCC's role as a specialized consultative body, and refining the new type of socialist political party system in the country.
He also stressed the importance of consultative democracy as a fundamental component of the broader democratic process. Xi called for the creation of favorable conditions to promote the extensive, multilevel, and institutionalized development of consultative democracy, ensuring that diverse opinions are fully expressed and broad consensus is achieved.
Furthermore, Xi urged the CPPCC to integrate Party leadership, united front efforts, and consultative democracy to garner public support for the modernization of China. He encouraged collaboration among political parties, organizations, and individuals from various social sectors to foster political unity, common progress in thinking, and coordinated actions.
By harnessing the collective talent and wisdom within the CPPCC, Xi aims to address major and complex issues related to China's modernization. He also highlighted the need for the CPPCC to provide robust political guidance to intellectuals, non-public sector workers, emerging social groups, and religious figures.
In his closing remarks, Xi emphasized the importance of enhancing consultation and interaction mechanisms, reflecting social conditions and public opinion, and ensuring that the CPPCC remains engaged with and serves the people effectively. He called on CPC committees at all levels to strengthen their leadership over the CPPCC's work.
The meeting was attended by senior CPC officials, including Li Qiang, Zhao Leji, Cai Qi, Ding Xuexiang, Li Xi, and Vice President Han Zheng. Wang Huning, chairman of the CPPCC National Committee, presided over the event, reiterating the significance of Xi's directives for the high-quality development of the CPPCC in the new era.
