China and Malaysia Pledge Enhanced Cooperation in Modernization Efforts

In a significant step towards strengthening bilateral ties, Chinese President Xi Jinping met with Malaysia's King Sultan Ibrahim Sultan Iskandar on Friday in Beijing, committing both nations to enhance cooperation in modernization efforts.

The Malaysian king is currently on a four-day state visit to China, set to conclude on Sunday. This visit marks his first to a non-ASEAN country since he assumed the role of head of state in January 2024, signaling a strategic move to deepen international relationships.

During their meeting at the Great Hall of the People, President Xi highlighted the long-standing friendship between China and Malaysia, which has been nurtured since the establishment of diplomatic relations in 1974. \"As neighbors across the sea, China and Malaysia enjoy a time-honored friendship,\" Xi remarked.

This year also commemorates the 50th anniversary of China-Malaysia diplomatic ties and the Year of China-Malaysia Friendship, making it a pivotal time for both nations to build on their historical achievements and collaborate towards future growth.

President Xi emphasized that China's ongoing comprehensive reforms and advances in high-standard opening up strategies are set to bring new impetus and opportunities for cooperation with Malaysia, reinforcing the mutual benefits of their partnership.
