China Urges U.S. to Halt Arms Sales to Taiwan Region

A Chinese spokesperson on Thursday called on the United States to immediately stop arming China's Taiwan region and to cease sending misleading signals to separatist forces advocating for \"Taiwan independence.\"

In response to recent U.S. plans to sell arms to Taiwan, Chen Binhua, spokesperson for the State Council Taiwan Affairs Office, emphasized that the United States should honor its commitment not to support \"Taiwan independence\" with concrete actions.

Chen criticized the repeated arms sales by the United States to China's Taiwan region, stating that these actions seriously violate the three China-U.S. joint communiques, particularly the August 17 Communique. He added that such actions infringe upon China's sovereignty and security interests.

The Chinese Foreign Ministry has expressed firm opposition and announced sanctions on nine U.S. military industrial companies in response.

\"We urge the U.S. side to immediately stop arming China's Taiwan region and sending erroneous signals to separatist forces advocating for 'Taiwan independence,' and honor its commitment of not supporting 'Taiwan independence' with concrete actions,\" Chen stated.

He further mentioned that Taiwan authorities, led by Lai Ching-te, have consistently escalated confrontation and hostility across the Taiwan Straits. Chen warned that the military buildup by the Taiwan authorities would ultimately lead to their own destruction.

Chen asserted that China has full confidence and sufficient capabilities to thwart any \"Taiwan independence\" provocations and external interference.
