China's permanent representative to the United Nations, Fu Cong, has called on Israel to immediately end its unlawful presence in the occupied Palestinian territories. Speaking at the UN General Assembly's emergency special session on the Palestinian question, Fu emphasized the prolonged occupation has caused immense suffering for the Palestinian people and hindered their aspirations for independent statehood.
Fu highlighted that the International Court of Justice (ICJ) concluded that Israel's continued presence in the occupied Palestinian territory violates international law, and urged Israel to comply with this legal obligation. \"Ending the occupation is not an option, but a legal obligation for Israel,\" Fu stated.
He stressed that only a complete withdrawal and the establishment of an independent State of Palestine can pave the way for lasting peace between Palestine and Israel. Fu also advocated for the implementation of the two-state solution, describing it as the only viable path to resolving the Palestinian question and achieving peace in the Middle East.
China supports the draft resolution introduced by the State of Palestine at the UN, which focuses on enforcing the ICJ's advisory opinion and advancing the Middle East peace process. Fu called for a more broad-based and effective international peace conference to facilitate the implementation of the two-state solution, reinforcing the international community's commitment to peace and justice in the region.
