Chinese Defense Minister Dong Jun on Saturday emphasized the importance of enhancing defense and security cooperation to foster regional peace and stability.
During separate meetings with Fijian Minister for Home Affairs and Immigration Pio Tikoduadua and Tanzania's Minister of Defense and National Service Stergomena Lawrence Tax, Dong highlighted the enduring and progressive China-Fiji relations as a model of cooperation with South Pacific Island countries.
He further commended the collaborative efforts between China and Tanzania, describing their defense relations as a beacon for China-Africa security cooperation.
Dong stressed the importance of adhering to the consensus reached by their leaders and continuously improving the quality and effectiveness of defense and security partnerships.
Minister Tikoduadua expressed gratitude for China's support in Fiji's economic development, livelihood improvement, and military construction, lauding China's role in global and regional affairs. He affirmed Fiji's commitment to the one-China principle and the continuation of exchanges and cooperation with China.
Minister Tax of Tanzania echoed the sentiment, stating his country's willingness to enhance practical cooperation with China in areas like joint exercises and training, aiming to deepen their traditional friendship for the betterment of both nations and their peoples.
