China and Kyrgyzstan Strengthen Ties with Enhanced Legislative Cooperation

In a significant move to bolster international relations, China's top legislator Zhao Leji met with Kyrgyz Parliament Speaker Nurlanbek Shakiev in Beijing on Friday. The discussions focused on deepening pragmatic cooperation and enhancing exchanges between the two nations.

Zhao, who serves as the chairman of the National People's Congress (NPC) Standing Committee, highlighted the remarkable progress in bilateral relations under the strategic guidance of their respective leaders. He emphasized that the partnership has entered a new era of comprehensive strategic cooperation.

China expressed its readiness to collaborate with Kyrgyzstan in implementing the mutual consensus reached by their leaders. This collaboration aims to foster a China-Kyrgyzstan community characterized by good neighborliness and shared prosperity. Zhao stressed the importance of maintaining security and development interests amid the current complex international and regional landscape, assuring Kyrgyzstan of China's unwavering support in safeguarding its sovereignty and development goals.

The talks also delved into expanding economic and trade cooperation, promoting scientific and innovation exchanges, and improving connectivity between the two countries. A key highlight was the proposed construction of the China-Kyrgyzstan-Uzbekistan railway, which Zhao advocated to commence at the earliest opportunity.

Additionally, the NPC expressed willingness to enhance legislative exchanges, engage in mutual learning regarding rule-of-law construction, and strengthen coordination within multilateral frameworks such as the China-Central Asia mechanism and the Shanghai Cooperation Organization.

During the briefing on China's people's congress system, Zhao assured that China is open to sharing its experiences in democracy and rule-of-law construction with Kyrgyzstan, respecting each other's unique development paths and political systems.

Echoing the sentiments of strengthened friendship, Shakiev affirmed Kyrgyzstan's commitment to enhancing friendly exchanges with the NPC, aiming to contribute positively to bilateral cooperation.
