China and Spain Reinforce Strategic Partnership Ahead of 20th Anniversary

In a significant move strengthening bilateral ties, Chinese Premier Li Qiang met with Spanish Prime Minister Pedro Sanchez during Sanchez's official visit to Beijing on Monday.

As the 20th anniversary of the China-Spain comprehensive strategic partnership approaches next year, Premier Li emphasized China's readiness to collaborate with Spain in implementing the key agreements made by both nations' leaders. He highlighted the importance of building political mutual trust and enhancing bilateral relations with a strategic focus.

The discussions are set to prioritize the high-level alignment of development strategies and the in-depth integration of growth drivers. Both leaders aim to achieve tangible outcomes from their mutually beneficial cooperation, particularly in expanding two-way opening up, fostering cross-border e-commerce, and improving logistics convenience.

Pierre Li noted that China is committed to optimizing and developing bilateral trade and investment cooperation. He assured that China will provide increased facilitation and support for Spanish and other foreign enterprises investing in China. In return, China hopes Spain will offer a fair, safe, and predictable business environment for Chinese enterprises looking to invest in Spain.

Beyond economic collaboration, Premier Li expressed China's willingness to work with Spain on green development and innovation. The focus areas include new energy, energy conservation, environmental protection, the digital economy, and space technology.

Li also underscored China's dedication to upholding openness and cooperation, safeguarding the multilateral trading system with the World Trade Organization at its core, and maintaining stable global industrial and supply chains. He expressed hope that Spain will play a constructive role in promoting China-EU cooperation.

Spanish Prime Minister Sanchez echoed these sentiments, stating that Spain places great importance on its relations with China. He looks forward to enhancing bilateral exchanges across all levels, enriching the comprehensive strategic partnership, and strengthening collaborations in culture, education, science, and technology to deepen mutual understanding and friendship between the two nations.

Following their talks, the leaders witnessed the signing of several bilateral cooperation documents in areas such as economy, culture, education, science, and technology, marking a step forward in their strategic partnership.
