China and Norway Strengthen Bilateral Ties in Beijing Summit

In a significant diplomatic engagement, Chinese premier Xi Jinping met with Norwegian Prime Minister Jonas Gahr Store in Beijing on Monday to discuss the enhancement of bilateral cooperation and address global challenges.

Premier Xi expressed China's willingness to collaborate with Norway in fostering the continuous development of friendly relations. He highlighted the 70-year history of diplomatic ties between the two countries, emphasizing the mutual respect, appreciation, and learning that have forged a valuable friendship.

Xi pointed out that strengthening China-Norway cooperation aligns with the aspirations of both nations and the global trend towards closer international ties. Amidst a world experiencing profound and unprecedented changes, Xi reaffirmed China's commitment to peaceful development, comprehensive reform, and modernization to contribute stability and opportunities for global development.

The premier underscored the complementary nature of the two economies and the fruitful outcomes of their cooperation in various sectors. He proposed expanding collaboration in environmental protection, energy transformation, maritime affairs and shipping, agricultural and fishery products, and electric vehicles. Additionally, Xi advocated for increased exchanges in education, culture, tourism, and winter sports to deepen mutual understanding and cooperation.

Both leaders agreed on the importance of maintaining world peace and security, addressing climate change, protecting biodiversity, and tackling other global challenges. Xi expressed China's readiness to enhance communication and coordination with Norway through the United Nations and other multilateral platforms, promoting true multilateralism and an equitable, multipolar world.

Prime Minister Store conveyed King Harald V's warm greetings to Premier Xi and affirmed Norway's respect for China's sovereignty and adherence to the one-China policy. He highlighted Norway's intention to expand cooperation with China in green development, climate change, maritime affairs, shipping, agriculture, fishery industries, new energy vehicles, and artificial intelligence.

The two leaders also discussed the Ukraine crisis and other pressing international issues. Premier Xi emphasized China's support for peaceful resolutions and the promotion of dialogue to achieve a political settlement, hoping that all parties would work together to create favorable conditions for peace.
