Venezuelan presidential opposition candidate Edmundo Gonzalez Urrutia has left the country, seeking asylum in Spain. Venezuelan Vice President Delcy Rodriguez announced on social media that Gonzalez voluntarily took refuge at the Spanish embassy in Caracas before requesting political asylum.
Rodriguez added that Caracas agreed to Gonzalez's safe passage, and he departed for Spain aboard a Spanish Air Force plane. Spanish Foreign Minister Jose Manuel Albares confirmed the flight on social media, stating that Gonzalez traveled at his own request.
As of now, neither Gonzalez nor his party has issued any comments regarding his asylum request.
