In a landmark meeting at the 2024 Forum on China-Africa Cooperation (FOCAC) Summit, Chinese Premier Xi Jinping and Tanzanian President Samia Suluhu Hassan emphasized strengthening bilateral ties as a blueprint for China-Africa relations.
Marking the 60th anniversary of diplomatic relations, Xi highlighted the mutual respect and trust that underpin the partnership, outlining China's commitment to advancing a comprehensive strategic cooperative partnership with Tanzania. One of the key initiatives discussed is the revitalization of the Tanzania-Zambia Railway Authority (TAZARA) railway. Xi expressed China's willingness to leverage the summit to drive progress on this project, which is pivotal for improving the rail-sea intermodal transport network in East Africa. The summit also served as a platform to endorse the Dar es Salaam Consensus, a collaborative agreement signed earlier this year by Chinese and African scholars. President Hassan echoed Xi's sentiments, affirming Tanzania's trust in China as an indispensable partner. She called for the expansion of practical cooperation across various sectors and the active advancement of Belt and Road initiatives to deliver tangible benefits to Tanzanian citizens.
