China and Gabon Strengthen Ties at 2024 FOCAC Summit

In a significant display of international cooperation, Chinese President Xi Jinping met with Gabonese President Brice Clotaire Oligui Nguema during the 2024 Summit of the Forum on China-Africa Cooperation (FOCAC) in Beijing.

Xi emphasized China's readiness to work closely with Gabon to advance their traditional friendship, highlighting the relationship as a model for China's interactions with other African and developing nations. He underscored the importance of deepening collaboration in key sectors such as infrastructure, agriculture, health, and the digital economy to support Gabon's economic diversification.

The discussions also covered enhanced cooperation in counter-terrorism and security, aiming to promote both domestic stability and regional peace. Xi expressed China's commitment to helping Gabon create a brighter future through their comprehensive strategic partnership.

President Nguema echoed these sentiments, stating that China is Gabon's most important partner, significantly contributing to the nation's development. He expressed gratitude for China's support during Gabon's political transition and affirmed Gabon's adherence to the one-China policy.

The summit also marked the celebration of the 50th anniversary of diplomatic relations between China and Gabon. Both nations reaffirmed their commitment to the Belt and Road Initiative, with several bilateral agreements signed in areas including investment, economic cooperation, and infrastructure development.

As the FOCAC summit concluded, the strengthened ties between China and Gabon set a promising tone for future collaborations, reinforcing a partnership aimed at mutual growth and stability.
