Xi Jinping Pledges Stronger China-Africa Collaboration at FOCAC Summit
In a significant move to bolster international partnerships, Xi Jinping met with Moussa Faki Mahamat, Chairperson of the African Union (AU) Commission, in Beijing for the 2024 Forum on China-Africa Cooperation (FOCAC) Summit.
During their discussions, Xi emphasized the AU's pivotal role in Africa's global cooperation and highlighted the growing political trust between China and the AU. This trust is evident through their coordinated efforts in international and regional matters over recent years.
One of the standout achievements Xi pointed to was the successful establishment and operation of the China-funded Africa Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. This initiative has made substantial contributions to Africa's health sector, enhancing the well-being of millions across the continent.
Renewing China's commitment, Xi expressed support for the AU's mission to cultivate China-Africa friendship. He underscored the FOCAC summit as a prime opportunity to deepen cooperation across various sectors, aiming to elevate the China-Africa community towards a shared prosperous future.
Xi also reflected on the rapid global changes, noting that the rise of the Global South — comprising nations like China and Africa — is injecting stability and positive momentum into global peace and development. He affirmed that Africa, as a major global force, remains a key focus in China's diplomatic efforts. China is dedicated to enhancing political ties, building strategic trust, fostering practical cooperation, and sharing developmental experiences with Africa.
Concluding their talks, Xi advocated for mutual support in promoting a multipolar and equitable world. He stressed the importance of inclusive and fair economic globalization to uphold international fairness, justice, and the common interests of developing nations.
