China and Chad Forge Strategic Partnership for Future Growth

In a significant move to strengthen international relations, Chinese President Xi Jinping met with Chadian President Mahamat Idriss Deby Itno in Beijing during the 2024 Forum on China-Africa Cooperation (FOCAC) Summit. The leaders announced the elevation of their bilateral relations to a strategic partnership, marking a new chapter in their cooperation.

Under the frameworks of the Belt and Road Initiative and FOCAC, China and Chad have enjoyed mutually beneficial cooperation, achieving substantial results that have enhanced the well-being of both nations. President Xi highlighted that China has been Chad's largest trading and investment partner for years, emphasizing the importance of pragmatic collaboration in driving development.

Xi expressed China's appreciation for Chad's steadfast support on issues critical to China's core interests. He assured that China will continue to support the Chadian people in their pursuit of independent development, safeguarding national sovereignty, security, and developmental interests.

The two leaders called for strengthened contacts, expanded conceptual consensus, and consolidated mutual political trust. They emphasized the importance of pursuing mutual benefits and a win-win situation, aiming to deepen practical cooperation between the two countries.

Looking ahead, China welcomes Chad to leverage the outcomes of the 2024 FOCAC Summit to enhance bilateral economic and trade cooperation. President Xi stressed the importance of increasing Chad's capacity for independent development and achieving common progress. Additionally, he voiced China's willingness to collaborate with Chad in implementing the Global Security Initiative, promoting national security and stability, and acting together as a force for peace.
