During the 2024 Summit of the Forum on China-Africa Cooperation (FOCAC) in Beijing, Chinese President Xi Jinping pledged to cultivate and carry forward the traditional friendship with Guinea. Highlighting the importance of mutual support, Xi emphasized that both nations would continue to firmly back each other on issues involving core interests and major concerns.
Guinea holds the distinction of being the first sub-Saharan African country to establish diplomatic relations with China, a milestone they will commemorate next month with their 65th anniversary of bilateral ties. President Xi outlined plans to enhance cooperation in several key areas, including infrastructure construction, resource development, rural construction, poverty alleviation, and medical care and health. He assured that China will assist Guinea in transforming its rich resources into a driving force for development.
Xi reiterated that strengthening solidarity and cooperation with developing countries, especially in Africa, is a cornerstone of China's diplomacy. He expressed China’s readiness to collaborate closely with Guinea to promote the building of a community with a shared future for mankind.
In response, Guinean President Mamady Doumbouya affirmed Guinea’s adherence to the one-China policy, emphasizing that there is only one China in the world. He thanked China for its assistance in Guinea's economic and social development, noting that Chinese investment has significantly boosted economic growth and improved the livelihoods of Guinean people, exemplifying mutual benefit and win-win outcomes.
President Doumbouya expressed optimism that the upcoming summit would be successful, aiming to advance cooperation in infrastructure, energy, mining, transportation, and tourism to achieve even greater results.
