In a compelling address at the United Nations Security Council, Fu Cong, China's permanent representative, urged the immediate removal of all unilateral sanctions imposed by certain countries. Fu criticized these measures as illegal under international law and the UN Charter, highlighting their detrimental effects on the economic and social well-being of targeted nations.
Fu emphasized that such sanctions not only exacerbate hardships but also heighten the risk of new conflicts and instability. He stressed the importance of a favorable external environment for effective conflict prevention, which is currently undermined by these unilateral actions.
Advocating for enhanced UN support, Fu called for increased development assistance through peacekeeping operations and special political missions. He highlighted the need for these missions to prioritize economic growth and sustainable development in the countries they assist.
The envoy also spotlighted the pivotal role of regional organizations in fostering political trust and cooperation. He advocated for an open, non-discriminatory international economic and trade environment, ensuring that developing countries can participate fairly in global economic, scientific, and technological cooperation.
Fu further called for reforms in the international financial system to better address the needs of developing nations, particularly in areas such as development financing, climate change, and capacity building. He condemned unilateralism and interference in other countries' internal affairs, reiterating China's stance against hegemony and emphasizing that such sanctions sow the seeds for future conflicts.
Addressing global turmoil, Fu noted the spillover effects of conflicts in certain regions and the necessity for enhanced conflict prevention measures that tackle both symptoms and root causes. He identified poverty and underdevelopment as major sources of conflict, underscoring the importance of poverty reduction and development in achieving lasting peace.
Fu highlighted the significance of effective governance in maintaining stability and promoting sustainable development. He urged governments to actively address market shortcomings and invest in infrastructure, education, and healthcare to enhance public welfare and secure long-term stability.
Inclusive development, particularly the protection of human rights for women, youth, and other vulnerable groups, was emphasized as vital for building a lasting peace foundation. Fu showcased China's commitment to supporting the Global South in achieving peace and sustainable development, citing initiatives like the China-UN Peace and Development Trust Fund.
One notable project under this fund is Juncao Technology, which assists farmers in 107 countries in transitioning to higher value-added industries such as mushroom farming and animal husbandry. This initiative addresses critical issues like poverty, food security, and employment. Fu praised Professor Lin Zhanxi, the inventor of Juncao Technology, for his ongoing global promotion of this innovation.
Concluding his remarks, Fu affirmed China's readiness to collaborate with the international community to help more developing countries achieve self-sufficiency, foster peace, and build the foundation for global stability.
