In a recent statement, the Chinese Foreign Ministry asserted that the United States holds no authority to intervene in maritime issues between China and the Philippines in the South China Sea.
Spokesperson Mao Ning addressed the matter during a regular press conference, responding to U.S. criticisms regarding China's actions in the disputed waters. This follows an incident where two Philippine Coast Guard vessels entered the vicinity of Xianbin Jiao in China's Nansha Qundao on Monday.
Mao emphasized that the Philippines was the initial violator of China's territorial rights and that China's measures to protect its sovereignty and maritime interests are both lawful and justified.
The spokesperson further stated that the U.S., not being a party to the South China Sea issue, should refrain from using the U.S.-Philippines Mutual Defense Treaty as a basis to infringe upon China's sovereignty and rights in the region.
Mao concluded by urging the United States to cease actions that incite confrontation, as such behavior undermines regional stability and escalates tensions.
