Early Monday morning, maritime tensions escalated near Ren'ai Jiao as a Philippine Coast Guard vessel ventured into disputed waters. According to the China Coast Guard (CCG), the incident began at 3:24 a.m. when the Philippine ship ignored repeated warnings and approached a Chinese coast guard vessel stationed for enforcement duties.
The encounter resulted in a scrape between the two vessels, with the CCG spokesperson Gan Yu asserting that the Philippine side bore full responsibility for the incident. Despite these warnings, the Philippine Coast Guard ship continued its course and intruded further into Ren'ai Jiao waters around 6 a.m.
Gan emphasized that such provocations by the Philippine side have significantly infringed upon China's sovereignty and undermined regional peace and stability. He called on the Philippines to immediately cease these actions to avoid any further consequences.
The incident highlights the ongoing maritime disputes in the region and underscores the need for peaceful and respectful navigation practices among neighboring nations.
