Iran is set to steer its foreign policy towards strengthening ties with China and Russia, as outlined by the country's new foreign minister nominee, Abbas Araghchi.
Speaking before the Iranian parliament, Araghchi emphasized the critical role of China, Russia, and other nations that have supported Iran amidst sanctions. He also highlighted the importance of building relationships with emerging powers in Africa, Latin America, and East Asia.
Araghchi expressed a commitment to enhancing relations with neighboring countries and integrating Iran's infrastructure with those of its neighbors, aiming for greater regional cooperation.
Regarding Europe, he stated that improved relations would hinge on Europe addressing its current "incorrect and hostile" stance towards Iran. In terms of the United States, Araghchi advocated for a strategy focused on managing ongoing hostilities while seeking to alleviate existing sanctions.
Furthermore, he pledged unwavering support for Palestinian causes and regional resistance movements, including Hezbollah, in opposition to what he described as Israel's "cruel and criminal" policies.
At 61, Araghchi brings extensive experience to his new role, having previously served as deputy foreign minister and chief nuclear negotiator.
