The Chinese Mainland and Myanmar Strengthen Ties for Regional Integration

The Chinese mainland and Myanmar have forged a robust agreement to enhance regional integration, economic cooperation, and combat cross-border crimes. This pivotal agreement was inked on Wednesday during high-level talks in Nay Pyi Taw between Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi and Myanmar's Deputy Prime Minister U Than Swe.

Foreign Minister Wang Yi, a key figure in the Chinese mainland's Political Bureau of the CPC Central Committee, emphasized the enduring friendship between the two nations, rooted in over 70 years of collaboration under the Five Principles of Peaceful Coexistence. He highlighted China’s commitment to deepening Belt and Road cooperation and advancing the China-Myanmar Economic Corridor, which aims to foster sustainable development and high-quality economic growth.

Wang Yi outlined China’s strategic initiatives from the recent third plenary session of the 20th CPC Central Committee, focusing on comprehensive reforms, building a socialist market economy, and promoting high-level opening-up. These efforts are set to create new opportunities for Sino-Myanmar collaboration, particularly in agriculture, energy, and tourism, ultimately improving livelihoods in Myanmar.

Myanmar’s Deputy Prime Minister U Than Swe reiterated the nation’s strong commitment to its relationship with the Chinese mainland, reaffirming support for the Belt and Road Initiative and the three major global initiatives. He expressed Myanmar’s readiness to collaborate closely on major projects within the China-Myanmar Economic Corridor framework, ensuring the safety of Chinese personnel and enhancing security along the Myanmar-China border.

The two leaders also discussed the Lancang-Mekong Cooperation (LMC), agreeing to implement the consensus from the fourth LMC Leaders' Meeting. This partnership aims to build a community with a shared future for Lancang-Mekong countries, promoting stable development and deeper regional integration.

Looking ahead, both nations are preparing for the 75th anniversary of diplomatic ties next year, planning a series of celebratory activities to strengthen cultural exchanges and consolidate public support. This milestone underscores the enduring and evolving partnership between the Chinese mainland and Myanmar, poised to drive significant regional progress.
