China Calls on Japan to Exercise Prudence Over Yasukuni Shrine Visits

The Chinese Foreign Ministry has issued a stern reminder to Japan, urging the nation to demonstrate caution regarding sensitive historical issues such as visits to the Yasukuni Shrine. This call comes amid Japanese Prime Minister Fumio Kishida's recent ritual offering at the shrine, accompanied by several cabinet members.

On the occasion of Japan's 79th anniversary of accepting the Potsdam Proclamation and its unconditional surrender, spokesperson Lin Jian emphasized the significance of this historical moment. \"The Chinese people, together with the people of the world, defeated the Japanese militarist aggressors and fascism,\" Lin stated, highlighting the enduring impact of World War II.

Lin Jian criticized the actions of Japanese political leaders towards the Yasukuni Shrine, describing them as reflective of an outdated perspective on historical matters. He stressed that acknowledging and deeply reflecting on the past aggression is crucial for Japan to foster and maintain friendships and cooperation with its Asian neighbors.

\"We emphasize the need to remember the lessons of history not to continue hatred but to use history as a mirror, uphold peace, and look to the future,\" Lin noted. He called on Japan to honor its commitment to recognizing its history of aggression and to take concrete steps to rebuild trust with both its regional neighbors and the international community.
