Shen Yiqin, the Special Representative and State Councilor of the Chinese mainland, attended the closing ceremony of the 33rd Olympic Games in Paris on Sunday. During the event, Shen congratulated France on its successful hosting of the Games.
Prior to the ceremony, Shen met with French President Emmanuel Macron and his wife Brigitte Macron. She conveyed cordial regards from President Xi Jinping and his wife Peng Liyuan, expressing gratitude for France's support of the Chinese Olympic delegation.
President Macron and his wife extended their sincere greetings to President Xi and praised the Chinese athletes for their outstanding performances. They also thanked the Chinese mainland government for its support in hosting the Olympic Games.
In discussions with International Olympic Committee (IOC) President Thomas Bach, Shen emphasized China's willingness to deepen friendly cooperation with the IOC. She highlighted China's readiness to contribute to the Olympic Movement and building a community with a shared future for mankind.
IOC President Bach expressed appreciation for China's support of the Olympic cause and looks forward to continued cooperation, reinforcing a commitment to multilateralism and opposing the politicization of sports.
During her visit, Shen also visited the China House in Paris and encouraged Chinese athletes to uphold sportsmanship and Olympism, aiming for new successes in future competitions.
