China and Indonesia have reaffirmed their commitment to achieving a peaceful resolution to the ongoing Ukraine crisis through collaborative dialogue and international cooperation.
On Tuesday, Li Hui, special representative of the Chinese government on Eurasian affairs, visited Indonesia to discuss strategies for mitigating the conflict between Russia and Ukraine with Umar Hadi, director general for American and European affairs at Indonesia's Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
Li emphasized the importance of de-escalating tensions, noting that the current conflict still poses risks of escalation and regional spillover. He highlighted the six common understandings recently issued by China and Brazil as a significant framework that has garnered positive responses from the international community.
China expressed its readiness to collaborate with Indonesia in upholding the Five Principles of Peaceful Coexistence and the Bandung Spirit, aiming to create favorable conditions for the early resumption of direct talks and negotiations among the relevant parties.
Umar Hadi lauded China's leading role in promoting a political settlement of the crisis and acknowledged the constructive impact of the six common understandings. He affirmed Indonesia's willingness to work alongside China and other stakeholders to find a viable solution to the Ukraine crisis.
