In a significant move to support humanitarian efforts in Gaza, China has donated $3 million to the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees in the Near East (UNRWA).
The contribution agreement was signed on Thursday by Zeng Jixin, head of the Office of the People's Republic of China to the State of Palestine, and Antonia Marie De Meo, Deputy Commissioner General of UNRWA (Operational Support).
Zeng emphasized China's longstanding support for UNRWA's mission, highlighting the country's proactive assistance since the onset of the Gaza conflict last year. \"China has always supported the UNRWA's active performance of its duty and called on the international community to support the agency's work,\" he stated.
Looking ahead, Zeng reaffirmed China's commitment to the Global Security Initiative, aiming to collaborate with the international community to swiftly end the fighting in Gaza, alleviate the dire humanitarian situation, and pursue a two-state solution.
Antonia Marie De Meo expressed gratitude for China's consistent support, noting that the latest contribution is crucial for UNRWA's ongoing efforts. She also conveyed UNRWA's eagerness to strengthen cooperation with China to further mitigate the humanitarian crisis in Gaza.
This donation underscores China's role in global humanitarian aid and its dedication to fostering stability and peace in regions affected by conflict.
