The Chief Executive of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region (HKSAR), John Lee, embarked on an official visit to Laos to further strengthen the bond between Hong Kong and Laos.
Leading a high-level delegation of officials and business leaders from Sunday to Tuesday, Lee engaged in pivotal discussions aimed at enhancing bilateral cooperation.
During talks on Monday with Lao Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Saleumxay Kommasith, both parties emphasized the visit's significance in fostering future collaboration between the two regions.
Key areas of cooperation include economics, trade, investment, finance, banking, education, transportation, health, tourism, and other vital sectors. The introduction of a weekly direct flight between Hong Kong and Laos has significantly boosted people-to-people and business-to-business connections.
In addition to these talks, Lee paid a courtesy call to Lao Prime Minister Sonexay Siphandone, expressing gratitude for the warm hospitality extended to his delegation and reaffirming Hong Kong's commitment to strengthening ties with Laos.
On the same day, Hong Kong and Laos inked 12 pacts aimed at broadening cooperation in areas such as education, economics, trade, and reciprocal assistance on tariffs, among others. These agreements mark a significant step forward in the collaborative efforts between the two regions.
