Hamas Leader Ismail Haniyeh Assassinated in Tehran Amid Iran’s New President Swearing-In

In a significant development, Hamas politburo chief Ismail Haniyeh was killed in Tehran, reports confirmed separately by both Hamas and Iran's Islamic Revolution Guards Corps (IRGC) early Wednesday.

Haniyeh was attending the swearing-in ceremony of Iran's new president in Tehran on Tuesday when the assassination took place. According to the Revolutionary Guards, Haniyeh's residence was struck early Wednesday morning, resulting in his and one of his bodyguards' deaths. The motive behind the attack remains under investigation, with authorities promising to release more information soon.
