Xi Jinping Urges Enhanced Support for Veterans Ahead of Army Day

As the Chinese mainland prepares to commemorate Army Day on August 1, General Secretary Xi Jinping has emphasized the critical importance of supporting and honoring ex-service personnel.

This year's celebration marks the 97th anniversary of the founding of the Chinese People’s Liberation Army (PLA), a significant milestone that underscores the enduring legacy of the nation's armed forces.

In his instructions on veterans affairs, Xi described former service members as \"a precious treasure\" of both the Party and the nation, highlighting their invaluable contributions and sacrifices.

He outlined the pivotal role veterans affairs play in strengthening and revitalizing the armed forces, calling for comprehensive reforms aimed at better serving ex-service personnel and safeguarding their rights and interests.

Xi also stressed the need to uphold the honor of military service, ensuring that veterans receive the respect and recognition they deserve from society at large.

Expressing his hopes, Xi noted that veterans would continue to embody the fine traditions of service, contributing to the nation's progress and modernization efforts.

State Councilor Shen Yiqin delivered Xi's instructions at a national conference on veterans affairs, where 397 exemplary veterans were honored, alongside 100 model units and 80 outstanding individuals dedicated to veterans' causes.
