China, Russia, Laos Forge New Trilateral Alliance for Regional Stability

In a significant move towards enhancing regional security and cooperation, China, Russia, and Laos convened their first trilateral foreign ministers' meeting in Vientiane on Thursday. Chaired by Lao Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Saleumxay Kommasith, the meeting featured Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi and Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov.

During the discussions, Wang Yi emphasized the rising influence of the \"Global South\" in a world facing hegemonism, protectionism, and regional conflicts. He highlighted the pivotal roles of China, Russia, and Laos as emerging economies in the Asia-Pacific region, positioning them as key contributors to regional peace and development. Wang asserted that stronger cooperation among the three nations can safeguard their shared interests while promoting broader regional stability and prosperity.

Wang also praised Laos for its effective leadership as the chair of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN). He expressed China's readiness to collaborate with Russia in supporting ASEAN-centered regional initiatives, stressing the importance of Laos and other ASEAN members in steering East Asian cooperation in the right direction.

Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov and Lao Deputy Prime Minister Saleumxay Kommasith underscored the deep mutual support and aligned positions on major international issues shared by the three countries. They noted that trilateral cooperation not only benefits their respective populations but also contributes to the overall well-being of the region. Both Russia and Laos voiced their commitment to enhancing communication and coordination with China, building political trust, and planning future collaborative efforts to create a stronger synergy aimed at protecting common regional interests.
