Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi emphasized the need to cool tensions in the ongoing Ukraine crisis during a phone conversation with Hungarian Foreign Minister Peter Szijjarto on Tuesday.
Wang, also a member of the Political Bureau of the Communist Party of China Central Committee, highlighted the urgency of reducing hostilities to pave the way for a political settlement.
The discussion followed Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban's recent visit to China, where strategic talks with Chinese President Xi Jinping underscored the strong partnership between the two nations.
Hungary expressed its willingness to collaborate with China in preventing the escalation of the conflict and fostering conditions conducive to peace talks. Szijjarto acknowledged China's important role in promoting peace and reiterated Hungary's commitment to supporting diplomatic efforts.
Wang praised Hungary's constructive role in mediating for peace and stressed the importance of all parties reaching a consensus on key principles such as no battlefield expansion, no escalation of fighting, and no incitement by any side. These steps are essential to creating the conditions needed for a ceasefire and the resumption of peace talks.
China reiterated its readiness to join forces with Hungary to support peace efforts, amplify rational voices, and steer the situation toward a political resolution, aiming to bring together more forces in support of peace.
