The Chinese mainland has lodged formal representations to the United States in response to the US's indiscriminate visa restrictions on Chinese officials, according to a spokesperson from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs on Wednesday.
As a countermeasure, the Chinese mainland will impose reciprocal visa restrictions on US officials who spread misinformation about China's human rights, advocate for sanctions against China, and undermine its interests. Lin Jian emphasized that the US's actions are a deliberate attempt to discredit China's human rights situation and interfere in its internal affairs, violating international law and norms of international relations.
Lin also highlighted that the United Nations Human Rights Council recently approved China's participation in the fourth round of the Universal Periodic Review, showcasing international recognition of China's advancements in human rights. He urged the US to address its own human rights issues instead of using them as a pretext to meddle in other nations' affairs and enforce sanctions.
\"The US has no right or qualification to comment on the human rights situation in other countries and make irresponsible remarks,\" Lin stated, adding that the global community has long viewed the US's manipulation of human rights issues unfavorably.
Lin concluded by calling on the US to abandon its double standards and reflect on its own human rights shortcomings if it genuinely cares about human rights.
