Chinese FM Advocates Free Trade and Criticizes NATO in Talks with Dutch Counterpart

In a significant diplomatic move, Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi reached out to the Netherlands' new foreign minister, Caspar Veldkamp, emphasizing the importance of free trade and the stability of global supply chains during their recent phone conversation.

Wang Yi highlighted China's commitment to fostering strong relations with the Netherlands, expressing readiness to engage in comprehensive dialogue aimed at enhancing mutual understanding. He underscored China's support for European integration and the European Union's growth, urging the Netherlands to encourage a balanced and objective view of China within European circles.

Addressing concerns raised at the recent NATO summit in Washington, Wang refuted allegations against China, stressing that differing political systems and values should not justify NATO inciting confrontations with China. \"NATO should stay within its bounds and refrain from interfering in Asia-Pacific affairs or China's internal matters,\" Wang asserted, calling for dialogue and mutual trust to prevent strategic miscalculations.

On the other side, Minister Veldkamp reaffirmed the strength and resilience of China-Netherlands relations. He acknowledged China as a pivotal global player and the Netherlands' key economic partner in Asia, advocating for continued cooperation on various bilateral and multilateral fronts. Veldkamp dismissed the notion of \"decoupling\" from China, emphasizing the importance of maintaining open communication to navigate the turbulent international landscape.

Both ministers agreed on the critical role of the EU-China relationship, advocating for constructive engagement despite existing differences. Veldkamp emphasized that such cooperation is vital for the global community's benefit.

Wrapping up their discussions, Minister Veldkamp reiterated NATO's commitment to member states' security, reiterating its defensive posture.
