The Chinese mainland has vehemently opposed the United States for what it terms as the spread of unfounded misinformation regarding Russia's defense capabilities. Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson Lin Jian addressed the issue on Thursday, responding to remarks made by U.S. Secretary of State Antony Blinken at the 2024 NATO Public Forum.
During a press briefing in Beijing, Lin expressed strong dissatisfaction with the U.S. allegations, stating, \"We express strong dissatisfaction with and firm opposition to the erroneous remarks made by the U.S. side.\" He highlighted that the U.S. has accused China of providing military support to Russia amidst the Ukraine crisis without presenting substantial evidence.
Lin referenced a study by the KSE Institute, affiliated with the Kyiv School of Economics, which found that over 95 percent of all parts in Russian weaponry on Ukraine's battlefield originated from Ukraine's Western allies. Notably, 72 percent of these parts were sourced from U.S.-based companies alone.
Emphasizing that the U.S. and its allies have largely maintained their trade with Russia and have not imposed widespread sanctions, Lin stated, \"The U.S. can't dump the pot on China.\" He reiterated that China is not a party to the Ukrainian crisis, asserting, \"We never fuel the flames or exploit the situation for selfish gains, nor will we provide weapons to any party to the conflict.\"
Furthermore, Lin assured that Chinese enterprises operate in line with World Trade Organization rules and market principles, engaging in normal economic and trade cooperation with countries worldwide, including Russia and Ukraine. He criticized the U.S. for attempting to hold China accountable for its actions, adding, \"The United States should not presume to make China pay for its wrongdoings, and China will never accept the U.S.' shirking responsibility, bullying and coercion.\"
