In a significant move strengthening regional collaboration, China and Bangladesh have elevated their relationship to a Comprehensive Strategic Cooperative Partnership. This milestone was announced on Wednesday during a meeting between Chinese President Xi Jinping and Bangladeshi Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina at the Great Hall of the People in Beijing.
President Xi highlighted the longstanding friendship between the two nations, tracing back over a thousand years. Since establishing diplomatic relations in 1975, China and Bangladesh have consistently demonstrated mutual respect, support, and a commitment to win-win cooperation. This partnership serves as a powerful example of successful collaboration among Global South countries.
Looking ahead, China is poised to celebrate the 50th anniversary of diplomatic relations next year by deepening high-quality cooperation under the Belt and Road Initiative (BRI). Both nations aim to expand their collaboration across various sectors, including trade, investment, and infrastructure, ensuring a sound and steady development of their strategic partnership.
President Xi emphasized the importance of enhancing political mutual trust and continuing the tradition of mutual support. He assured Bangladesh of China's unwavering support for its independent foreign policy and its path of development tailored to its national conditions. Moreover, China opposes any external interference in Bangladesh's sovereignty, independence, and territorial integrity.
The leaders also discussed enhancing exchanges in governance experience and development policies, aligning their development strategies, and fostering stronger industrial and supply chain ties. This cooperation is expected to bolster Bangladesh's national development and promote sustainable economic growth.
Furthermore, President Xi called for the establishment of the Year of People-to-People Exchanges between China and Bangladesh next year. This initiative aims to boost cultural, tourism, media, and sports collaborations, fostering deeper social and cultural ties between the two peoples.
On the international stage, China and Bangladesh agreed to work closely on global and regional issues, enhancing their coordination within the United Nations and other multilateral frameworks. Both nations are committed to upholding common human values and building a community with a shared future for mankind.
