China and Thailand Strengthen Ties in Latest Foreign Affairs Meeting

In a significant display of international cooperation, Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi and Thai Foreign Minister Maris Sangiampongsa co-chaired the second meeting of the Consultation Mechanism between the Ministers of Foreign Affairs of China and Thailand in Beijing on Tuesday.

Wang Yi emphasized the strong bond between the two nations, referring to China and Thailand as good neighbors, relatives, and friends. He highlighted that China has been Thailand's largest trading partner for over a decade and the primary source of foreign investment, with Chinese tourism to Thailand surpassing three million visitors this year.

Expressing China's support for Thailand's role in global and regional matters, Wang called for enhanced connectivity, strengthened law enforcement, and increased cooperation to combat cross-border crimes such as internet gambling and telecom fraud. He also encouraged leveraging the mutual visa exemption agreement, effective since March 1, to foster deeper people-to-people exchanges, particularly among the youth.

Thai Foreign Minister Maris Sangiampongsa reaffirmed Thailand's commitment to the one-China policy and its dedication to advancing bilateral relations through increased governmental, business, and cultural exchanges. He outlined Thailand's readiness to collaborate with China on high-level exchanges and practical initiatives in digital economy, electric vehicles, renewable energy, and tourism.

The discussions also covered regional cooperation in East Asia, Lancang-Mekong Cooperation, and the Myanmar issue, underscoring the collaborative efforts to promote stability and development in the region.
