In a significant move ahead of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) summit in Astana, Chinese President Xi Jinping emphasized China’s unwavering commitment as a trustworthy friend and partner of Uzbekistan. The meeting with Uzbek President Shavkat Mirziyoyev marks a continued effort to elevate bilateral relations to a comprehensive strategic partnership.
Building on their January meeting during Mirziyoyev’s state visit to China, both leaders reiterated their dedication to fostering a China-Uzbekistan community with a shared future. Xi highlighted China’s accelerated modernization efforts and acknowledged Uzbekistan’s ambitious \"Uzbekistan-2030\" strategy aimed at comprehensive national advancement.
\"Our goal is both ambitious and simple, which is to deliver a better life for our people,\" Xi stated, underscoring the mutual objectives of high-quality bilateral development. He outlined plans to enhance Belt and Road cooperation, implement long-term economic and investment strategies, and expedite the China-Kyrgyzstan-Uzbekistan railway project. Additionally, China and Uzbekistan will collaborate on renewable energy projects, including photovoltaic and wind power, and the development of new energy vehicles.
The two nations also agreed to expand exchanges at the sub-national level, promoting tourism, education, and other sectors. China expressed its eagerness to host Uzbekistan as the guest country of honor at the upcoming China International Import Expo.
Mirziyoyev praised China’s resilience and achievements under Xi’s leadership, particularly in economy, science, and technology. He reaffirmed Uzbekistan’s support for the one-China principle and its commitment to combating terrorism, extremism, and separatism. Both leaders expressed their intent to work closely within the SCO framework and other multilateral platforms to advance global initiatives such as the Global Development Initiative, Global Security Initiative, and Global Civilization Initiative.
This strengthened partnership between China and Uzbekistan is set to drive forward regional cooperation and contribute to the stability and prosperity of Central Asia.
