In a significant move towards strengthening international ties, China and Azerbaijan issued a joint statement on Wednesday announcing the establishment of a strategic partnership between the two nations.
The statement highlights that since the inception of their diplomatic relations on April 2, 1992, both countries have enjoyed fruitful cooperation across various sectors. Amid the current complex and evolving international landscape, China and Azerbaijan are set to expand their collaboration in political, economic, cultural, and other fields to enhance global cooperation, safeguard mutual interests, and promote peace and stability both regionally and worldwide.
Underpinned by principles of mutual respect, equality, trust, support, and win-win cooperation, the strategic partnership aims to reinforce the two nations' commitment to national independence, sovereignty, and territorial integrity, while adhering to the principle of non-interference in each other's internal affairs.
The joint statement also underscores the shared recognition of terrorism, separatism, and extremism as grave threats to the international community. Both countries pledged to work together to prevent and counter these challenges through joint efforts.
Azerbaijan expressed its support for China's Global Development Initiative, Global Security Initiative, and Global Civilization Initiative, indicating a willingness to actively participate and accelerate the implementation of the UN 2030 Sustainable Development Agenda. This collaboration aims to safeguard international and regional security and stability.
In a move to foster closer economic and cultural ties, Azerbaijan has announced a one-year unilateral visa-free policy for Chinese nationals. This initiative is expected to boost tourism in Azerbaijan and further enhance economic, people-to-people, and cultural connections between the two countries.
