North Korea's economy has shown a definite upturn in the first half of 2024 compared to the previous year, according to top DPRK leader Kim Jong Un. During a key ruling party meeting that concluded on Monday, Kim, the general secretary of the Workers' Party of Korea, reviewed the nation's economic performance and outlined the tasks for the second half of the year.
The enlarged meeting of the 10th plenary meeting of the party's 8th Central Committee, held from Friday to Monday, focused on an interim review of this year's economic work and organizational matters of the party. All key issues discussed were unanimously approved, as reported by the official Korean Central News Agency (KCNA) on Tuesday.
Kim highlighted that major industrial sectors have executed their plans without significant deviations, and the farming situation across the country remains \"fairly good.\" Additionally, the construction sector has seen \"remarkable successes,\" with significant new projects progressing well.
Emphasizing the importance of developing the regional economy, Kim stressed the need to prioritize the enhancement of scientific and technological capabilities to achieve economic goals and complete ongoing key national projects.
In his speech, Kim also addressed the \"deviations and shortcomings\" identified in various sectors of the national economy, calling for intensified efforts to implement the economic tasks for the latter half of the year and transform 2024 into \"a year of new changes.\"
