China is taking significant steps to advance global biodiversity by expanding its giant panda conservation efforts with new partnerships in Austria and the United States. The latest initiatives aim to promote both the health of these beloved species and friendship among nations.
The China Wildlife Conservation Association recently announced a new agreement with Schonbrunn Zoo in Austria, marking the commencement of a fresh phase in giant panda conservation cooperation. This collaboration underscores China’s commitment to preserving these iconic animals while strengthening international ties.
In parallel, Yun Chuan and Xin Bao, a pair of giant pandas, have embarked on a journey to the San Diego Zoo in the United States as part of a new China-U.S. conservation project. This move builds upon over two decades of successful cooperation between China and the U.S., fostering both conservation research and cultural affinity.
Foreign Ministry spokesperson Mao Ning highlighted the longstanding nature of these partnerships, noting their fruitful contributions to both panda conservation and international friendship. She stated that a new pair of giant pandas will be sent to Austria for a 10-year conservation project, with the current Austrian pandas, Yuan Yuan and Yang Yang, set to return to China later this year.
The pandas’ relocation to the San Diego Zoo involves meticulous preparations to ensure their health and safety, followed by a quarantine period to help them acclimate to their new environment.
