At the 15th Annual Meeting of the New Champions, also known as Summer Davos, held in Dalian, Chinese Premier Li Qiang presented his insights on fostering global economic growth amidst rising trade protectionism and unilateralism.
Premier Li emphasized that the pursuit of new growth frontiers should be a collaborative effort aimed at common prosperity for all nations, rather than a zero-sum game. Addressing the challenges posed by restrictive policies, he stated, \"The 'small yard and high fence' policy cannot stifle the development of opponents but only shackle the hands and feet of those who favor such a policy.\"
Li advocated for the creation of an even, fair, and nondiscriminatory environment that supports scientific and technological innovation, grounded in the protection of intellectual property rights. He highlighted China's commitment to nurturing innovation, mentioning that the country is home to over 400,000 high-tech enterprises and more than 100,000 specialized small and medium-sized enterprises producing unique products.
Responding to questions from Klaus Schwab, Executive Chairman of the World Economic Forum, Premier Li pointed out that China provides fertile ground for innovative ideas to thrive. He noted China's strong support for basic research and development, strategic scientific and technological advancements, and vigorous promotion of corporate innovation to enhance original innovation capacities.
Premier Li also stressed the importance of leveraging market forces to allocate resources effectively. He remarked, \"For the government, the most critical aspect is to create a favorable environment for innovation and entrepreneurship,\" underscoring the pivotal role of government in fostering a dynamic and innovative economic landscape.
