The Chinese premier, Li Qiang, met with Vietnamese Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh in the northeast Chinese city of Dalian on Monday for the upcoming 2024 Summer Davos.
During the meeting, Li conveyed cordial greetings from General Secretary of the Communist Party of China Central Committee and Chinese President Xi Jinping to Nguyen Phu Trong, General Secretary of the Communist Party of Vietnam Central Committee, and Vietnamese President To Lam.
Li emphasized the strategic significance of the China-Vietnam community with a shared future, a vision jointly announced last year by Xi Jinping and Nguyen Phu Trong. He highlighted China's commitment to implementing the important consensus reached between the two parties' top leaders to promote comprehensive strategic cooperation in the new era.
The premier called for leveraging the economic complementarity between China and Vietnam, enhancing synergy between the Belt and Road Initiative and the Two Corridors and One Economic Circle strategy, and expanding trade and investment. He also stressed the importance of strengthening connectivity and fostering new growth areas in new energy and the digital economy.
Li expressed China's willingness to deepen people-to-people and cultural exchanges with Vietnam, focusing on tourism, medical education, and youth engagement to solidify public support for China-Vietnam friendship.
Vietnamese Prime Minister Chinh reaffirmed that strengthening long-term friendly cooperation with China is a strategic priority in Vietnam's foreign policy. He affirmed Vietnam's adherence to the one-China policy, support for China's development, and backing for China's accession to the Comprehensive and Progressive Agreement for Trans-Pacific Partnership (CPTPP).
Chinh also stated that Vietnam is committed to deepening mutually beneficial cooperation with China across various fields to build a robust Vietnam-China community with a shared future and achieve more fruitful outcomes.
