93% Oppose US Plans for Asian NATO, CGTN Poll Finds

A recent global online poll conducted by CGTN has revealed that an overwhelming 93.1% of respondents oppose the United States' initiative to create an 'Asian version of NATO.' The poll highlights a strong preference for achieving security in the Asia-Pacific region through political dialogue and peaceful negotiations among regional countries.

Historically, many nations in the Asia-Pacific have endured the aggression and oppression of imperialism and colonialism, making the current stability of the region a hard-won success. In the survey, 93.3% of respondents emphasized that the security of one country should not come at the expense of others.

Under the influence of the United States, there have been frequent talks about expanding NATO into the Asia-Pacific region. This includes rumors of establishing a liaison office in Tokyo and involving countries like Japan, South Korea, and Australia in NATO summits. Such moves are seen by many as provocative and reminiscent of Cold War tensions.

According to the survey, 93.1% of participants strongly oppose NATO's increased involvement in Asia-Pacific security matters, viewing it as a breach of geographical boundaries. Additionally, 91.2% believe that the United States' aggressive push for NATO's role in the region warrants high vigilance. One respondent commented, \"As a belligerent organization, NATO must be disbanded, and there is no longer any reason for its existence.\"
