The Chinese Ministry of National Defense has called on the United States to cease supplying arms to the Taiwan region. In a recent statement, the ministry highlighted concerns over the US's potential sale of drones and missiles to Taiwan, which is estimated to be valued at $360 million.
According to Wu Qian, a spokesperson for the ministry, these arms sales violate the one-China principle and various joint communiques between China and the US, particularly the August 17 Communique. Wu emphasized that such actions threaten China's sovereignty and security interests, undermine bilateral and military relationships, and destabilize the Taiwan Strait, posing risks to residents of Taiwan.
The Ministry has formally lodged representations with the US to express strong opposition to these arms sales. Wu also pointed out that the Democratic Progressive Party authorities in Taiwan are seeking independence, and the US's support for these efforts exacerbates tensions. He noted that persistent US arms sales to Taiwan are fueling Taiwan's military capabilities, turning the area into a potential conflict zone.
In response, the Chinese People's Liberation Army (PLA) is set to enhance its military training, aiming to counteract any separatist forces seeking \"Taiwan independence.\"
