The Chinese Ministry of Foreign Affairs has called on the United States to revoke its plans to sell arms to Taiwan region, emphasizing that such actions violate the one-China principle and threaten regional stability.
Lin Jian, a spokesperson for the ministry, strongly condemned the U.S. State Department's approval of $360 million in weapons and equipment sales to Taiwan, along with training services. He stated that these sales undermine China's sovereignty and security interests, and harm China-U.S. relations.
Lin criticized the frequent arms sales, asserting that they embolden Taiwan authorities who advocate for \"Taiwan independence\" and provoke tensions across the Taiwan Straits. He highlighted that separatist moves and support from U.S.-led forces pose significant threats to cross-Straits peace and stability.
He warned that the DPP authorities' pursuit of independence through military build-up, supported by U.S. actions, would backfire and lead nowhere. Lin affirmed that the Taiwan question is at the core of China's interests and emphasized China's determination to safeguard its sovereignty and territorial integrity.
