The Qinghai-Xizang Plateau, home to the Sanjiangyuan region in northwest China's Qinghai Province, continues to bolster its ecological environment. The region, often referred to as \"the water tower of China,\" is the source of the Yangtze, Yellow, and Lancang rivers.
Since the establishment of the Sanjiangyuan National Park in 2021, the area's ecological health has markedly improved. Annual water conservation capacity has risen by over 6%, ensuring the delivery of more than 60 billion cubic meters of high-quality freshwater downstream each year, according to the latest park development report.
During an inspection tour in Qinghai earlier this week, Chinese President Xi Jinping emphasized the importance of protecting the rich yet fragile ecosystem of the Qinghai-Xizang Plateau. \"Strengthening ecological environment protection and maximizing ecological functions are the main tasks of the region,\" he stated.
President Xi called on the province to prioritize ecological conservation and green development, promote ethnic unity and common prosperity, and make significant strides in advancing the ecological conservation and high-quality development of the plateau.
