Chinese Premier and Malaysian King Strengthen Bilateral Ties

In a significant move to bolster regional cooperation, the Chinese premier Li Qiang met with Malaysia's King Sultan Ibrahim Sultan Iskandar in Kuala Lumpur on Wednesday. The discussions focused on enhancing the alignment of development strategies between the two nations, aiming to leverage their complementary strengths and promote cooperation in emerging sectors.

Premier Li conveyed warm greetings from President Xi Jinping, emphasizing that his visit seeks to implement the important consensus reached by leaders of both countries and to further develop China-Malaysia relations. He highlighted China's readiness to deepen mutual political trust and maintain close high-level exchanges, particularly as both nations celebrate the 50th anniversary of their diplomatic ties.

Li Qiang underscored the importance of building a China-Malaysia community with a shared future, guiding the continuous upgrade of bilateral cooperation to benefit both peoples. He emphasized mutual support in safeguarding interests related to sovereignty, security, and development, and encouraged more competitive Chinese enterprises to invest in Malaysia.

Furthermore, Premier Li called for strengthened exchanges and mutual learning in education, youth, and other fields. He advocated for increased visits between the two peoples to consolidate public support for the enduring China-Malaysia friendship.

Responding to the meeting, King Sultan Ibrahim expressed Malaysia's commitment to its relationship with the Chinese mainland. He stated that Malaysia is ready to seize the opportunity presented by the 50th anniversary of diplomatic ties to enhance cooperation in economics, trade, science and technology, education, and tourism, aiming to elevate bilateral relations to a new level. The King also welcomed Chinese companies to invest and conduct business in Malaysia.
