China Calls for Global Unity to Combat Illicit Small Arms Trade

Addressing the illicit trade of small arms and light weapons is a critical step towards combating terrorism and transnational organized crime. Geng Shuang, China's deputy permanent representative to the United Nations, emphasized this during his speech on Tuesday.

Speaking at the general debate of the Fourth Review Conference of the Programme of Action on Small Arms and Light Weapons, Geng highlighted the necessity of maintaining regional peace and stability. He stressed that resolving these issues is pivotal for the socioeconomic development of all nations.

Geng urged all countries to tailor their approaches according to their unique national conditions. This involves establishing and improving relevant laws, regulations, and institutional frameworks while simultaneously enhancing law enforcement and control measures.

China's call for collective action underscores the importance of international cooperation in tackling the challenges posed by illicit small arms trade. By fostering a unified global response, nations can better safeguard their communities and promote sustainable development.
