In a significant move towards fostering regional harmony, Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi has expressed China's commitment to collaborating with the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) to promote peace, stability, and shared prosperity in the region.
Wang made these remarks in a congratulatory letter to the China-ASEAN Future Relations Forum held in Jakarta, Indonesia, on Wednesday. Highlighting the strong ties between China and ASEAN, he emphasized that both parties share similar development paths and modernization concepts.
Describing ASEAN as a \"friendly and close neighbor and a reliable long-term comprehensive strategic partner,\" Wang underscored China's willingness to align its development strategies with those of ASEAN. He reaffirmed China's support for ASEAN's community building efforts and its pivotal role in the regional architecture.
This year marks the 70th anniversary of the Five Principles of Peaceful Coexistence, which Wang noted are in harmony with the ten principles of the Bandung Conference and the ASEAN Charter. He encouraged all relevant parties to leverage the forum to propose ideas for advancing China-ASEAN relations, aiming to build a closer community with a shared future.
Wang concluded by calling for joint efforts to promote an equal and orderly multipolar world and to support universally beneficial and inclusive economic globalization, reinforcing the vision of a stable and prosperous Southeast Asian region.
