U.S. Ambassador Advocates Cultural and Sports Ties in Shanghai Visit

During his recent visit to Shanghai, U.S. Ambassador to China Nicholas Burns emphasized the importance of strengthening cultural and sports exchanges between the United States and China. Ambassador Burns expressed his hope for fresh cooperation and deeper connections in these areas, highlighting the role such initiatives can play in fostering mutual understanding.

In a meeting with Shanghai Mayor Gong Zheng, the two leaders discussed the significance of ongoing dialogue and exchanges in enhancing bilateral cooperation across various sectors. Mayor Gong reflected on his visit to the U.S. last month, underscoring the importance of these interactions in building a more robust partnership.

This year marks the 45th anniversary of diplomatic relations between the People’s Republic of China and the United States. Mayor Gong noted Shanghai’s pivotal role as a bridge for friendship and cooperation, expressing optimism for future collaborations that will invigorate bilateral exchanges and help realize the \"San Francisco Vision.\"

The mayor also called for increased high-level collaboration between universities and research institutions from both countries, aiming to drive innovation and academic excellence through shared initiatives.
